Privacy policy
What we collect, why, and the choices you have. We keep this short and plain — the same way we write everything else here.

Who we are
The Mannings (“we”, “us”) publishes The Mannings at the-mannings.com — informational guides to hand weaving and honest yarn buying guides. For any question about this policy or your data, email us at hello@the-mannings.com. For the purposes of the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), we are the data controller for this website.
What we collect, and why
Analytics (no cookies)
We use Ahrefs Web Analytics to understand which pages are read. It is cookieless: it sets no cookies, does not track you across other sites, and does not build a profile of you. It records aggregate, anonymised page views only. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in seeing how the site is used (GDPR Art. 6(1)(f)).
Advertising (Google AdSense)
We show ads through Google AdSense. To do this, Google and its partners may set and read cookies and similar identifiers on your device to serve, measure and (where you allow it) personalise ads. If you are in the EU, UK, or Switzerland, we ask for your consent before these advertising cookies are used, through a consent message shown on your first visit. You can change or withdraw that choice at any time via the privacy options on the site. Legal basis: your consent (GDPR Art. 6(1)(a)).
How Google uses data from sites that use its services is described at google.com/technologies/partner-sites, and you can manage your Google ad settings at myadcenter.google.com.
Affiliate links
Some outbound links to products are affiliate links (including the Amazon Associates programme). If you click one and buy something, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you — and it never changes our verdict. When you click through, the retailer (e.g. Amazon) may set its own cookies under its own privacy policy; we do not control those.
Hosting and security
The site is hosted on Vercel. Like any web host, Vercel processes basic request data (such as your IP address, browser type, and the page requested) in server logs to deliver the site and keep it secure. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in operating and protecting the site (GDPR Art. 6(1)(f)).
Cookies
The site itself does not use cookies for tracking. The only cookies come from Google AdSense, and only where you have consented (in the EU/UK/CH). You can also control or delete cookies through your browser settings at any time; blocking them will not break the content, though it may affect the ads you see.
Who your data is shared with
We do not sell your personal data. Data is processed by the services above — Google (advertising), Vercel (hosting), and Ahrefs (aggregate, cookieless analytics) — acting as our processors or, in Google’s case for advertising, as an independent controller.
International transfers
Some of these providers are based in the United States and may process data outside the EEA. Where that happens, transfers are covered by appropriate safeguards such as the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses.
How long we keep data
We hold no personal database of our own. Aggregate analytics are retained only in anonymised form; advertising and hosting data are retained by Google and Vercel according to their own policies.
Your rights
Under the GDPR you have the right to:
- access the personal data held about you;
- have inaccurate data corrected, or data erased;
- restrict or object to how your data is processed;
- data portability;
- withdraw consent for advertising cookies at any time; and
- lodge a complaint with your local data protection supervisory authority.
To exercise any of these, email hello@the-mannings.com.
Children
This site is not directed at children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect their personal data.
Changes to this policy
If we change how the site handles data, we will update this page and the “last updated” date above.
